- The best way to treat chancroid is to get antibiotics including azithromycin, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, and erythromycin. This is because it is a bacterial infection. Large lymph node swellings need to be drained, either with a needle or local surgery.

Prevention
The best way to keep away from chancroid is to stay abstinent. If you are sexually active, however, it is always safe to use a condom. Condoms are the best way to protect against STD's. You may also want to ask your partner if he/she has an STD that you should know about. If they do then you might want to change your mind.
